"My job is to coach the Indian hockey team. The politics I leave to others. I also feel the players are only interested in playing hockey. If we can achieve results, everybody will be happy": Michael Nobbs

India 8 Queensland NSW 1

Rajpal Singh scored four goals including a hat trick as India whipped the Queensland and New South Wales State 8-1 at the State Hockey Centre on Saturday.

The other goal scorers for India, who led 5-0 at the break, were Shivendra Singh (8th and 12th min), VR Raghunath (50th min) and Hari Prasad (57th min).

The Australian team, captained by Dean Butler and which included renowned internationals Brent Livermore and Stephen Lambert, had no answer to the repeated Indian onslaughts.

Indian coach in-charge Harendra Singh expressed happiness with the result.

"The team was adapting well to the climatic change from the winter at Chandigarh where they had lost to European champions Holland in the summit clash of the Punjab Gold Cup on Monday," he said.

India will clash with Queensland and New South Wales State team again on Sunday.

Re: India thrash Aus state team

The news delights many hockey lovers in the country like me. Beating an australian team in their home ground is a great thing though it is a state team. We will be extremely happy if India beats Australia like this. I think that day is not far away. One day we will celebrate that happy occasion. Hearty Congrats India!
