The ad hoc selection committee of the Indian Hockey Federation today lifted the life ban on three Punjab players, who were punished after manhandling an umpire during the Premier Hockey League last year.
"Life ban was imposed on three players -- Tejbir Singh, Kamaldeep Singh and Maninder Singh -- by the previous regime and I revoke it with immediate effect," said Aslam Sher Khan.
Talking about the changes in the administration, Khan said, "We want to bury the past and look forward to improve hockey. Due to some people with vested interests, who were in charge of the IHF, an impression was created that players cannot become good administrators.
Khan also said that the committee had set a target of taking India into the top four sides by 2012 Olympics besides doing well in the Commonwealth Games at home.
A member of the 1975 World Cup winning team, Khan said plans are afoot to revamp PHL on the lines of Indian Premier League cricket tournament and attract more sponsors toward the game.
Thanking the International Hockey Federation for providing two experts -- Bob Davidzon and Ric Charlesworth -- to promote Indian hockey, Khan said, "With the help of the two experts, we will review the plight of game and chalk out a blue print for the improvement of the game.
"We will strengthen the domestic circuit and will extend permission for organising domestic tournaments, which were stopped by the previous regime." he said

Its nice that the ban has been lifted and please you have to select players from all over india. Please promote hockey in mumbai because its been dying over there and also a request that treat players like players and not like scapegoats or ordinary persons beacuse they feel let down in our country by the officials.

There's no place for violence in sport. And definitely not against an umpire. By re-instating these 3, who were seen on national televison sending Indian hockey into further disrepute, the Ad-Hoc committee (A-Mob) maybe harming Indian hockey. Wrong message, right time. The A-Mob is playing a dangerous game.

It is very unfortunate that Mr. Aslam Sher Khan has lifted the ban on indciplined players. It shows that new set of office bearers encoureging the indisciplined in youngsters. Discipline should be top priority in every sport.

Lifetime ban was a little too much. There is usually two sides to a storey. Discipline is very important. Step should be taken that this kind of thing never happens again

its not good thing and know any player can hit to juniorplayer and to umpire and if they lift the ban then they have to make any strong rule for these things so everybody know if i do this then wat happen and make a rule no indisciplain in hockey

Its good to lift the ban But DISCIPLINE IS VERY BIG CONCERN IN GAMES ,WE HEAR BEFORE SOME PROBLEMS and few names from Punjab were in matter,that time we all said ban on these undisicplined players but they know everything ,this not their college or any place its Ground of Hockey .They are the players and they know everything then why they are creating problems.
I HOPE THE ALL PLAYERS WILL BE VERY DISCIPLINED IN FUTURE AND UNDISCIPLINED WILL NOT BE GIVEN ANY CHANCE IN FUTURE AND JUSTICE SHOULD BE THERE BEFORE ANY DECISION.

What a pitty? Player can hit the umpire and behave any way they like and Aslam will protect them. I don't think none of the hockey umpires will approve Aslam's behaviour. Even India will not have any youngster taking umpiring as profession in future. FIH also sit and watch this doing nothing......
Gill gone now Aslam is building his kingdom. In this rate Indian Hockey will never improve.

I was a devoted admirer of the Great Aslam, without whose timely passes and goals India would have crashed out of the semis, in the 1975 World Cup. Now, overnight, I have the umost anger and abhorrence for Aslam the Politician. We need extraordiarily strong measures to curb violence in Indian Hockey, particularly the mob violence of Punjab Police players . Players who beat umpires, other players, or fans, should be jailed for assault.

The lifted ban is a good move as the players made a mistake and have been punisehed for the last two years. It like international football Zinaden Zidane head butted a italian player in the world cup and only got a 3 match ban, so these three did not desevre a life ban.
Also Tejbir is the best left winger the country has right now and is feared by most international hockey coaches. Dont you think he should be given another chance to rectifiey hes mistakes.
Please dont be so harsh on these youg players let the play and do there thing.

Players who manhandle umpires should be banned for life. By lifting their ban make no sense at all. How do you protect umpires in this manner?

THE LIFTING OF THE BAN ON THESE THREE PLAYERS SENDS THE WRONG SIGNALS. MISBEHAVIOUR AND INDISCIPLINE SHOULD BE DEALT WITH STERNLY. ASLAM SHER AND GROUP ARE BEHAVING LIKE POLITICAL PARTIES - WHATEVER THE PREVIOUS REGIME HAS DONE SHALL BE UNDONE. I think that more thought should have been given to discipline in general in the first place in India in line with FIH guidelines, as indiscipline has been a problem for some Indian players over the years. There should be clear protocols in place to guide ALL hockey players and their organisations with regards to the sanctions for indiscipline. This way, ALL players would know the sanctions that can and will be imposed for indicipline, dangerous conduct and for actions that bring the game into disrepute.
I hope that with the introduction of Ric Charlesworth, Indian Hockey will be nurtured towards the heights when they dominated world hockey grounded in hard work, discipline and a mutual respect of all fellow hockey players.
