New Delhi: Joaquim Carvalho's Indian team will open its campaign in the prestigious Azlan Shah hockey tournament against New Zealand on May 8 in Kuala Lumpur.
India, the bronze medallists in the previous two editions, play their second match in the seven-nation tournament against Argentina the following day.
After a day's rest, they will take on Canada and then face off against Belgium on May 12.
After a gap of two days, the Indians will play against arch-rivals Pakistan and end their league engagements against hosts Malaysia on May 17.
The final, as well as the placement matches, will be played on May 18. India, who failed to seal a place in the Beijing Olympics for the first time in 80 years when they went down to Great Britain in the final of the qualifying event in Chile, will hope that the tournament will put the national game once again on the right path.
India had a disappointing preparation for the tournament when they finished fourth in a four-nation tournament in Perth behind winners Australia, Korea and China.
In the second leg of the tournament to be played in Darwin from April 30, India will look to improve its performance as it takes on the same three sides again.

If they will not plan from ISt match then nothing will be changed ,you know in big tournamentsIst match be played draw 2nd loose third is for us do or die and after we out for race of medal. So but can expect from Indian coach for his planning.Planning is good for asian teams and but not for other teams .Let us see .Hope for best

Re: India play NZ in Azlan opener
All this talk of Carvalho should resign is to be given up. Just by changing the coach nothing can work. We need to plan our strategies well and try to put the best foot forward. Leave the rest to God. Our hockey team especially needs to get back its confidence. Then we can even beat teams like Australia, Netherlands, South Korea and New Zealand. Let us encourage the team instead of heaping abuses on their performance.
